After graduation, I attended Dunwoody Institute for Architectural Drafting and the University of Minnesota CEMS-- Metallurgy. I joined the Navy Air reserve in March of 1962. After active duty, I spent 4 years active reserve flying P2V’s out of the Naval Air Station at Minneapolis St Paul Air Port. I flew with anti sub squadron VP 812 as a radio ECM operator. Diane and I were married in 1962. Diane had completed Nurses training and was employed at the Chisago Lakes Hosipital as an R.N. I worked at Ryan Equipment Company a manufacturer of turf maintenance equipment as Purchasing Manager for 7 years. In 1969, I choose to make a career change and assumed the responsibilities as General Manager of a newly formed fiberglass business. After 4 years and the sale of the company. I went to work for Safetran Systems Corp. A large manufacture of Railroad crossing protection equipment. I spent 27 years in Management, wearing many different hats. Most of my time was spent as Purchasing Manager. My responsibilities included engineering and developing new products, evaluating and developing new suppliers, purchasing machinery, capital equipment and supervising new building additions. Invensys a British firm owned Safetran and decided, for economic reasons, to consolidate the Minneapolis plant with our Louisville plant. I was in charge of closing down the plant and transferring all the product lines to Louisville. I enjoyed my job immensely at Safetran but because of my age, I choose not to move to Louisville. I took a position for three years as General manager of a machine shop located in Cambridge MN that supplied product to large companies like Seagate, Medtronic, Polaris, plus many more. I retired in March of 2004. Diane and I live on South Lindstrom Lake in a house we purchased in 1965. Enjoy first and foremost the grandkids, fishing, sailing, trap and sporting clay shooting, deer and turkey, hunting, golfing with Diane and Heather, and motorcycling. Over the years, we have been able to travel both here in the states and a number of cities on both the east and west coast of Mexico. We love Xytapa Mexico in January and spend the month of March on the gulf in Destin Florida. We belong to Trinity Lutheran Church where I have served on council and various committees. I served 24 years on the Lindstrom fire Dept. Currently President of the Lindstrom Historical Society. Active member of the Chisago Lakes Sportsmen’s Club, Karl Oskar Day’s celebration committee, and Chisago Lakes Lake association. We both have been blessed with good health---yes, we have some aches and pains but nothing serious. I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone at our, “can you believe”, 50 th class reunion... |
