In the fall of 1958, I set off for Gustavus with my best friend, Gwen.  There I majored in Elementary Education, graduating in 1962.  I received a Masters in Teaching and Learning in 1998 from St. Mary’s University.

My career in education has included:
•  teaching in Illinois, Michigan, and Minnesota,
•  working with infants, toddlers, and their parents in the ECFE  (Early Childhood  Family Education) program,
•  teaching nursery school,
•  writing curriculum for the Lutheran Church in America,
•  directing children’s choirs,
•  and teaching students in PreK to Grade Six.

I retired from the Minneapolis Public Schools in 2002 where my most recent position was teaching Gifted and Talented, Title 1, and Music.  I’ve done some very part-time work teaching reading in District 281 since then and was the volunteer  music teacher at my grandson’s preschool last year.

My home base is a late 50’s rambler in Golden Valley.  I love gardening, but often disagree with the deer and rabbits as to how much and how often my bushes and plants need to be thinned and trimmed.

I enjoy reading, exercise classes, concerts at Orchestra Hall and elsewhere, my Tuesday night Women’s Group, educational events such as the Noble Conference at Gustavus, volunteering, trips to my cabin on Echo Lake near Turtle Lake, Wisconsin, swimming, kayaking, and spending time with my family.

My kids are all fairly near, as are my sister and brother-in-law.  Norma Ostrom Magnuson once told me about a Swedish saying that refers to grandchildren as the “dessert of life”.  I feel very blessed to have Jake (6) and Nick (4) as the very special dessert of my life.
