After finishing somewhere in the top 90% of our high school graduating class, I decided that college was not my next best step.

Mylo Nelson and I joined the Navy and spent 3 years repelling the communist hordes from the southern California beaches and bars. My Navy experience made college look a lot better.

I earned a B.S. degree at the University of Arizona and, while there, met Dixie Lee Powers. We were married and I began my career as a wildlife biologist with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

During my career, we lived in North Dakota, Indiana, Illinois, Wyoming, New Mexico, Utah, Washington, DC, Tennessee, and North Carolina.

I retired in 2001 and immediately went to work for the North Carolina Wildlife Commission.

Dixie always wanted to return to the Southwest so, in 2004, we moved back to Arizona. We like to travel, hike, volunteer, and I play softball and hunt.

Now that the gas prices have finally gotten high enough, Dixie and I are leaving here on June 10 to drive up the Alaska Highway.  We'll be gone at least 6 weeks but will be home in time to get to Minnesota for our reunion.
