Phew! I made it through the spring (and fieldwork) of May 1958 and graduated with the rest of you! I had farm work to get done!

I kept my nose to the grindstone farming my folk's land and taking on side jobs of hauling milk, hauling fuel oil for my Aunt, Ethel Corey at Corey Oil Co. in Lindstrom. I then started work in road construction for Shafer Contracting and spent 11 years there. All the time I was trying to build a dairy herd so I could milk cows.

In June of 1959 I married our classmate, Mary Anne Rickaby, and we lived in the village of Shafer. We rented a couple of farms in the Shafer area before we bought our farm on Unity Avenue 3 1/2 miles northwest of Taylors Falls. That was when the real work began. I quit my construction job in the spring of 1973 because I had several Holstein heifers that were caving and I was going to dairy farm!

I spent the next 33 years milking cows and raising our four daughters on the farm. I didn't get to participate in many of the girl's activities because the cows always needed my attention.

But, I sold the milk cows in 2001 and life began to change. I have the freedom to travel out of the state to do some pheasant hunting in the Dakotas and elk hunting in Colorado. By that time I had grandsons who had caught my passion for hunting and went along on these trips. Life is good!

My wife says I am too involved, but I now volunteer and teach youth hunter safety classes, take out disabled hunters for deer hunting, am a Lion's Club member, a Supervisor for Shafer Township, worked five years as the Taylors Falls Post Office relief driver, neighborhood meet & greet person (Welcome Wagon the wife says). I'm enjoying it!

As I write this bio I am planning on going to Texas on a pig hunt for a week in February. It sure is going to feel good to get out of Minnesota and this cold weather (45 Degrees below zero wind chill today).

Hope to see you all at the reunion.
