After leaving school, Bob enlisted in the Navy and served for 4 years. A couple of years later he joined the Coast Guard, and served for 20 years. He reached the rank of Commander.

During his years in the service, Bob was posted in San Francisco, Alaska, Flordia, Michigan, Hawaii, the Mediterranean, Japan, China and Viet Nam.

When Bob retired he and his wife, Yoko, traveled all over the U.S. in their motor home. A couple of years later they bought a home in Salem, Oregon. He worked for the State of Oregon until he retired for good.

Bob died on July 13, 2005 doing something he loved - riding his Harley "For the Animals."
