I began working at Mpls. Honeywell immediately after graduation. Worked a year before Buddy (now goes by Joe) and I were married in June of 1959. The first of our four daughters was born in September 1960, second daughter November of 1961, third May of 1964 and fourth June of 1972. I worked for a short time at State Farm Insurance in Roseville between our first and second daughters. Then I had the privilege to stay home most of the time with our girls while they were small. I did have some part-time working as a key-punch operator at the Standard Press in St. Croix Falls, bookkeeping for my mother-in-law, Fran Mattson Interiors, for a short time, calling Shafer residents for news for the newspaper (Chisago County Press) for the gossip column, etc. I went to work full-time at the Taylors Falls School in November of 1979. Our oldest daughter had graduated that spring and was off to college and our youngest was a second grader at Taylors Falls. I worked there until the time that Taylors Falls School and Chisago Lakes Area Schools combined in 1993. Beginning in July 1993 I was transferred to the District Office at the old Chi Hi building and worked there until I retired on June 30, 2006. Buddy teased me and called me "Bonnie Darling" when I worked at the Chi Hi building. We have seven grandchildren ages ranging from nearly 20 years old to a soon to be seven year old. We have five grandsons and two granddaughters. After raising four daughters we have enjoyed to world of little boys growing into young adults. But I will admit that our two granddaughters have been a little easier for me (more experience). They have all been such blessings! I am enjoying retirement back home on our farm. Of course, the dairy cattle have been gone for a few years, but we do have horses and some beef cattle. Joe and I have gotten into some flower gardening (he calls them the "we" gardens). I do the planning and planting and he does the heavy work, But we both enjoy the flowers! I love being able to be outdoors every day, all day if I so choose. I hope we are able to stay on the farm for many years! I am a beginning quilter, but I have actually completed a few quilts since I retired. It is so much fun! I am looking forward to our 50th high school class reunion. I sincerely appreciate the wonderful welcome I received from the Class of 1958 when I joined you all in the fall of 1956! |
